YesMatt's farewell drink at the Charsfield Horseshoes, we have been quiet haven't we.  We've been fired into action by Matt's departure on Friday after some five and a half years (he first came to des' dinners in 2002).  Matt is starting his own brewery in Cumbria on the premises of Europe's only still working iron mine.  The brewery is likely to be called the Red Man Brewery because the miners look red from the iron ore dust and the brewery's first beer is likely to be named Ol' Flo after the mine.  Good luck Matt and can't wait to try the beer!

Dan Pitt's red GinettaNo, it's not a put on.  Dan Pitt does live in Palo Alto, California and the entirely legal number plate on his gleaming red Ginetta sports car was inspired by Ginetta specialists Cottage Classics' presence just a up the road from us.

We had a brew last week that was a first.  We used Boadicea, First Gold and Pilot hops grown for us by the Wright brothers (honestly) somewhere in the hinterland between Peasenhall, Sibton and Bruisyard.  We used

Field of Suffolk Beaver at Brandeston

malt from Suffolk Beaver barley grown for us by Victor Scott in Brandeston.  It will be another week before we can judge the results.  This is leading towards a new beer provisionally called Brandeston Gold  and eventually all ESB beers will be brewed using only makings from Suffolk.

ESB on eBayIf you can have fish and chips on eBay then it's not surprising to find an ESB pump badge and no, we don't know who bikerjohn14 is.

One of the side effects of broadband isThe old pic of The Brewer that people can talk to you on the phone whilst looking at your web site.  Consequently The Brewer had this phone conversation Monday with a new woman customer.

"Which one am I talking to?"

"What?"

"I'm looking at your web site, which one are you?  Poppy?  Matt?"

"I'm The Brewer"

"Couldn't they have got a better picture than that?"

So here you are new woman customer.
